Spicy South Indian Chicken Curry with Coconut and Poppy Seeds

My all time favourite dish, a wonderfully spicy chicken curry with home made masala paste. This curry roots are from Andhra Pradesh, my home state.

Ingredients:

4 chicken breasts,  washed and cut into medium sized pieces
2 large onions finely chopped
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
3-4 green chillies slit length wise
1 large tomato finely chopped

Masala paste ( 2 tbsp coriander seeds, 2 tbsp white poppy seeds, 4 cloves, 2 inches cinammon stick and 2 black car demon, coconut pieces 4 to 5. Grind them by adding few tbsp of water to make a smooth masala paste)

1 ½ tbsp-2 tbsp sunflower oil

Method:

1. Heat oil in a cooking vessel, add the onions and saute till pink. Add the green chillies, ginger-garlic paste, masala paste and saute further for another 4-5 mts on medium heat.
2. Add the cleaned chicken pieces and cook on high heat for 4-5 mts, combining once in a while.
3. Add the turmeric, chilli powder and salt.
4. Add the chopped tomatoes and let it cook for 3-4 minutes without cover. Combine well and cook till oil separates.
5. Let the chicken cook in its  juices for few minutes before adding ½ cup of water. The oil starts accumulating at the top. Check the consistency of the gravy and remove from heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
